André Bjerke: “We are children and spiritual savages”

By far one of the most starkly true and profound statements I’ve come across in quite some time!

“We imagine ourselves as proprietors of the ultimate realities, possessing unfading wisdom. Yet, in truth we are entirely oblivious. We are children and spiritual savages, and our only accomplishments are technological toys that should be rightfully confined to the nursery. Our weakness emerges most clearly in our fear of the spirit world, that we are scared of ghosts. So scared, in fact, that we deny their existence.”

– André Bjerke, The Lake of The Dead
